Harihara chosen for MB Memorial Award

Bhubaneswar: Eminent wrestling coach Harihara Singh will be conferred the IIIrd MB Memorial Award 2018-Kridaguru Sammana, organisers Mukund Baral Memorial Trust members announced in a press conference here, Saturday.

Recipients of the awards in other sports disciplines were Farnam Firdosh (football), Anupama Swain (karate), Moti Jani (weightlifting) and Salma Murmu (judo). Promising athletes Pranjya Prashanti Sahu will be bestowed the MB Memorial Anuradha Biswal Award.

All the winners will be presented with cash awards of Rs 10,000, a plaque and certificate in a special function here July 7. A poster depicting the pictures of all the award winners was inaugurated in the press conference.

To revive the teacher and disciple tradition in the state, the award was instituted in 2016 in memory of eminent wrestling coach Mukunda Barala of Puri.

Rowers shine

Odisha rowers Ritu Koudi, Sonali Swain, Dipika Xess and Jharana Hasti representing India won a gold medal in the Coxless-4 category of the ongoing Junior Rowing Championship at Chungju, South Korea.

Odisha Association for Rowing and Sculling members congratulated the state rowers for their success. Odisha rowers had bagged a bronze medal in the last edition of the competition.

Ready to rumble

The first ever professional motorcycle racing team from Odisha Narasim Racing, led by Udipta Kumar are all geared up for the second round of the National Motorcycle Racing Championships at Chennai, July 6-8.

This will be the second appearance of the Odisha based team in the national level tournament. In this tournament Udipta will ride in pro-stock 301-400cc category using KTM 390.
