Cuttack, July 12: The Orissa High Court (HC) has directed the state council for technical education and vocational training (SCTEVT) to bring in changes into the selection of centres for the theory examinations of industrial training institutes (ITIs), scheduled to begin July 30.
As per the HC direction, students of government-run ITIs will sit the theory examinations at private institutes, while students of Private ITIs take the tests at government institutes.
The HC, however, refused to give any direction regarding the practical examinations of ITI colleges, scheduled to begin July 20. A division bench comprising justices Indrajeet Mahanty and BP Choudhury has directed the higher education and mass education department and the SCTEVT to abide by the guidelines of director general of employment and training (DGET) of the Central government while conducting examinations of the ITI institutes.
Besides, the bench has directed the SCTEVT to legal action against ITI colleges having no valid government approval while disposing of a batch of petitions related to the examinations.
The DGET had decided to conduct the examinations all ITI institutes across the country simultaneously. According to the decision, students of private ITIs were supposed to appear the examinations in government-run institutes.
Challenging the decision, Orissa private ITIs’ association and others had filed 16 cases in the High Court.
