HC seeks details from govt

Cuttack, Jan 31: The High Court Friday directed the general administration department to come up with a detailed report through an affidavit regarding irregularities in the allocation of Lord Lingaraj’s land and its encroachment.
A division bench of Justices Akhaya Kumar Rath and BR Sarangi also asked the Bhubaneswar tehsildar to provide detailed information in this regard.
Petitioner Sukant Rout had sent a letter to the HC following publication of reports in several newspapers regarding encroachment of the land. The HC took suo motu cognisance of the case and filed a petition. Several cases of wrongful allocation and encroachment of the Lord’s land are also pending with revenue council member and the tehsildar. Rules were not followed in allocation of land, the petitioner added.
HC for installation of pumps
before rains
The HC Friday asked Cuttack Municipal Corporation authorities to install water pumps to drain out water from the city thoroughfares during the rains.
A bench of Justices Indrajit Mohanty and SC Parija took up several cases of CMC for hearing. The civic body informed the court that it had procured six Volvo pumps for the purpose.
Separately, the bench asked the CMC to provide details on the Supreme Court’s stay on demolition of religious shrines in the city. There are 36 temples in CDA area of which 12 were demolished.
The civic body informed the court that eviction drives at several slums were under way. However, the court sought details of the eviction plans and steps taken to rehabilitate evicted slum-dwellers.
