Headless body found in field; murder suspected

Koksara: A headless body of a young man was recovered from an agricultural field along the Ladugaon-Supad road in Kalahandi district Thursday, triggering tension in the area. The body bore multiple injury marks inflicted with a sharp weapon.

Despite an extensive search by police, a forensic team and sniffer dogs, the victim’s severed head remained untraced. According to the family, Raju Bag, 30, of Ladugaon village had been missing for the past two days.

They identified the body from physical features and clothing. The family alleged that he had been murdered and the body dumped in the field. However, police have not yet officially confirmed the victim’s identity.

Dharmagada Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Varshitha Adpeu visited the crime scene Friday and supervised the investigation. The forensic team collected samples from the spot, while police and sniffer dogs searched the surrounding areas for the missing head. However, the operation yielded no results.

The family initially refused to allow the body to be removed until the severed head was found, leading to tension at the site. Police personnel later pacified them and shifted the body to Bhabanipatana for safe preservation until the head is recovered.

Koksara Additional Tehsildar Mohan Charan Jena was present at the site as the executive magistrate. Police and fire service personnel also launched a search operation in a nearby stream to locate the missing head. Kalahandi Superintendent of Police Nagaraj Devarakonda visited the spot to assess the situation and review the investigation.

Koksara police station inspector Dambarudhar Bharatia said the truth behind the incident would emerge only after the investigation is completed.
