Heatwave alert issued for 5 districts of Odisha

Bhubaneswar:  Indian Meteorological Center (IMD) has issued heat wave alert for five districts of Western Odisha amidst a sharp hike in day temperature there.

According to the Department, intense heatwave condition is likely to prevail in Nabarangpur, Balangir, Boudh, Sonepur and Bargarh districts. The weather is likely to continue till April 30.

As of Sunday, several parts of Odisha, particularly the Western Odisha continued to reel under intense heatwave condition with Talcher and Titilgarh vying for the ‘hot cauldron’ tag throwing normal life out of gear.

Weatherman said as many as 14 places across the state Sunday recorded day temperature above 40 degree Celcius with industrial belt of Talcher recording highest temperature of 46.3 degrees.  Titlagarh followed with 44.5 degree Celsius.

Other major towns that went beyond 40 degress are – Jharsuguda (43.2), Sambalpur Bolangir and Angul at 43 degrees each, Bhawanipatna (42.5), Hirakud (41.9), Sonepur (41.6), Malkangiri (41.5), Sundargarh (41), Keonjhargarh (40.6) and Chandbali (40.5).

The day temperature in coastal Odisha was comparatively lower with Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Balasore recording between 38.8 and 39.8 degree Celsius.
