Heatwave to sizzle Odisha as IMD flags Orange Warning

Bhubaneswar:  The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Thursday issued an Orange Warning among other warnings for heatwave as well as thunderstorm conditions to be experienced by several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 16: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khurda districts.

Similarly, for heatwave condition, the weather agency issued a Yellow Warning (be updated) at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Ganjam and Gajapati districts.

IMD also flagged a Yellow Warning (be updated) that predicted thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar,  Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kandhamal districts.

Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 16 to 8.30 AM of June 17: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Bargarh, Bolangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khurda districts.

Additionally, the weather agency issued a Yellow Warning (be updated) for heatwave condition to prevail at one or two places over Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts, the IMD bulletin stated.

IMD also flagged a Yellow Warning (be updated) that forecasted thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two over the districts of coastal Odisha, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and dry weather is very likely to prevail over the remaining districts of Odisha.

Temperature forecast: IMD predicted no large change in maximum temperature(day temperature) over next four days and a slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of the state.

It is likely to be above normal by 5-7 degree Celsius at a few places in Odisha over next four days. Consequently, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail during next four to five days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside from 11am to 3pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, heatwave condition is likely to prevail. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 44 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.1 degree Celsius was recorded at Sonepur while the lowest minimum temperature of 21 degree Celsius was recorded at Boudh, the bulletin informed.
