Bhubaneswar: Heavy rains in the north- eastern states have affected train services as railway tracks between Kishanganj and Panjipara stations over North Frontier Railway got submerged in flood waters.
Indian Railways sources informed this newspaper that several trains passing through the states would get affected. In view of the situation, instructions have been given to all Divisional Railway Mangers (DRMs) to control the trains at major stations.
“We have given instructions to all DRMs to control the trains at relatively bigger stations. Several trains will get delayed. This apart, special instruction has been given to the necessary stations for ensuring sufficient food and water facilities for the passengers. Railways has also taken the necessary measures for ensuring the safety and Railway Protection Force (RPF) is also on high alert,” said a top Railways official.
Till the publication of this report, Railways has cancelled three trains –Guwahati-Puri Express (15640), Puri-Guwahati Express (15639) and Dibrugarh-Chennai Egmore Express (15930)— and has rescheduled the Dibrugarh-Kanyakumari Vivek Express (15906). The Railways is also controlling a few trains due to safety reasons. Official sources informed the daily that more trains would be affected due to the incessant rains in the north eastern states.
