Bhubaneswar: Many parts of the state will receive heavy rainfall from Saturday under the impact of a fresh low pressure area which is likely to form around September 20.
“A cyclonic circulation lies over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and neighbourhood between 3.1 km & 3.6 km above mean sea level. Besides, a low pressure area is likely to develop over northeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around September 20,” said Bhubaneswar Met Centre in a bulletin.
Under its impact, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Rayagada districts, September 19.
Thunderstorm with lightning would also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal and Kalahandi districts, Saturday.
Similarly, few places of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Cuttack and Khurda district will witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on the next day.
On September 21, heavy rainfall will occur in Sonepur, Sambalpur, Angul, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput, Kandhamal, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Mayurbhan districts, the Met said.
The IMD also predicts thunderstorm with lightning for Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boudh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Ganjam, Friday.
The weatherman advised fishermen not to venture into deep sea area at north-east Bay of Bengal and adjoining east central Bay of Bengal from September 20 to 22 and along and off Odisha coast and North Bay Of Bengal from September 21 to 22. Whoever is deep sea are advised to return to coast by September 20.
Meanwhile, office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has asked district Collectors to remain in alert and take precautionary measures to meet any eventuality.
