Heavy rainfall likely to lash north Odisha in next 12 hours

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Saturday predicted heavy rainfall likely in north Odisha districts in the next 12 hours as a low-pressure area is likely to form over the north-west Bay of Bengal in the next 36 hours.

“A cyclonic circulation formed over the north-west Bay of Bengal Friday is most likely to concentrate into a low-pressure in the next 36 hours. Under its influence, rainfall will start from Saturday night in most parts of the North Odisha. The intensity of rainfall will increase from Sunday morning with heavy rainfall in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts. As the low pressure will gradually move in the north-west direction, there will be heavy rainfall at most places in Malkangiri and Koraput districts,” said the MeT office.

There will be moderate rainfall in the coastal districts of Puri and Khurda districts August 27 under the influence of the low pressure.

Besides, one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Sonepur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts would witness heavy rainfall August 29.

The weatherman also issued thunderstorm and lightning alert for Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kalahandi and Koraput districts and cautioned the people to stay indoors till 2.45 pm.
