Height not a hindrance for Chhabita Rana of Ganjam district

Berhampur: She was born a dwarf and at present has a height of approximately three feet. However, 40-year-old Chhabita Rana of Punada village under Sheragarh block in Ganjam district has never let her height come in the way to help and serve people. Working as an ‘Asha didi’ Chhabita continues to serve residents of local villages in her vicinity here.

Chhabita visits the houses of needy people and pregnant women of nearby villages every morning, as a part of her job. If necessary she also extends financial assistance to needy people from her meagre salary. She provides medicines to poverty-stricken pregnant mothers. She also accompanies them when they go to nearby hospitals for check up. She helps them during vaccination times also.

Chhabita has been in the frontline in the battle against the COVID-19 virus. She spreads awareness about the importance of social distancing, hand hygiene and wearing masks. She also regularly takes part in cleanliness drives in the villages

Chhabita has been living alone after the death of her parents. Her social service has turned into an inspirational story for other villagers. They have lauded her efforts at trying to help out people.
