Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi Friday announced that Gurujang village in Anugola district, the birthplace of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, would be developed as a Heritage Village, while the Gurujang Panchayat would be developed as a Model Panchayat.
Addressing a function organised at Gurujang near Talcher to mark the birth centenary of Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati, Majhi said Swamiji was not merely an individual but a great ideal, an extraordinary institution and a guiding light of Sanatan Dharma. He said Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati had renounced the comforts of modern life and devoted himself to serving underprivileged tribal communities while living in the remote and dense forests of Kandhamal.
Majhi said the state government had taken several important decisions to honour Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati’s sacrifice and lifelong service. The Phulbani Government Medical College has been renamed Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati Medical College, he said.
Besides, Rs 13 crore has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Special Assistance (CMSA) fund for the development and preservation of the heritage of Jalespata Ashram, Ashram School and Kanyashram associated with Swamiji’s work.
