Balugaon, Oct 10: Local police Friday nabbed four robbers including the kingpin of the gang after conducting raids in several of their hideouts, Khurda superintendent of police Dilip Das told mediapersons at the local police station.
The accused were identified as Haider Hussain Khan (25) of Athagarh Patna village under Kabisuryanagar police limits in Ganjam district, Sheik Kuna (24) of Dixitpada village under Tangi police limits in Khurda district and Sheik Islam alias Raja (19) and Sakim Khan (19) of Bambada village under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district.
Police also seized a bike, a country-made pistol, a live bullet, knives and other weapons from their possession.
Das said ringleader Hussain had taken a house on rent at Rajasunakhala bazaar in Nayagarh district to hatch plans for robberies. They used to target commuters on a stretch between Balugaon to Jankia chasing them on black Pulsar motorcycles. The three of them had looted cash, gold jewellery and a mobile phone from a biker at Parikansari Chhak of Balugaon bypass road October 5. Besides, the gang robbed a stationery shop at Lodhachua bazaar under Ranpur police limits and decamped with Rs 1.54 lakh from a rice-laden truck in an area under Bolgarh police limits, the police said, adding the members of the gang were also involved in several other criminal activities in other districts.
While the accused have been produced in court, efforts are on to nab their other accomplices, the SP said.
