HM suspended over MDM lapse, drinking habit

Patrapur: The headmaster of Nuagada Primary School in Turubudi pancha yat of Ganjam district has been suspended following complaints that 102 students were deprived of midday meals (MDM) for two consecutive days. Parents and villagers approached Patrapur Block Education Officer (BEO) Sitaram Patra Thursday, alleging that the students had been returning home hungry after attending classes without receiving their midday meals. According to the complaints, meals had not been properly provided at the government school for several days.

Food had not been prepared even by noon Thursday, leaving all 102 students without lunch. Parents reached the school and questioned the cook about the delay. They also alleged that the headmaster frequently came to school after consuming alcohol.

The allegations intensified after parents reportedly searched the headmaster’s motorcycle parked on the school premises and found two bottles of locally brewed mahua liquor. A video of the incident subsequently went viral on social media. Following the complaints and the circulation of the video, the BEO conducted an inquiry and suspended the headmaster. BEO Patra confirmed that the suspension followed an investigation into the allegations made by villagers and parents.
