Hockey Gangpur boost for school-level players

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to promote hockey among the school students, Hockey Gangpur president Olympian Lazarus Barla, along with William Xalxo and Roshan Minz distributed sticks and balls among the Unit-I Boys’ High School students here Friday.

After Capital High School, this is the second school in the capital city in which Hockey Gangpur has distributed hockey sticks and balls. “We also interacted with the students. It’s a great pleasure to know that apart from Sundargarh district many students of the city here are also interested to learn hockey,” stated Lazarus.

Unit-I Boys’ High School headmaster Pramod Kumar Das hailed the hockey stars for their noble effort. “We welcome the initiative taken by the legendary hockey players of our state to promote the game at the school level. Our students also got a golden chance to interact with many international hockey players,” Das said.

“Initially we will cover eight city-based schools to build up a pool of junior players. We will provide coaches and all the equipment to these schools and try our best to encourage youngsters to play hockey there,” Hockey Gangpur secretary Debashis Gouda stated.

Among others the physical education teacher of Unit-I Boys High School, Gopabandhu Baliarsingh was also present.
