Hockey Gangpur emerge champions

Bhubaneswar, May 5: Hockey Gangpur edged past Hockey Patiala 2-1 in the final to emerge champions of the Vth Hockey India Junior Women’s Hockey Championship (Div-B) at Rajnandgoan of Chhattisgarh, Tuesday. With the title win, Gangpur qualified for division-A.

Rinki Kujur drew the first blood as early as the sixth minute of the match by converting a penalty corner. In form Janhabi Pradhan nailed a brilliant field goal in the 23rd minute to double the lead. Hockey Patiala got one back in the 60th minute through Manpreet. They tried their best to restore parity throughout the match, but their effort was foiled by a resolute defense of Gangpur. Chief coach Amulya Nanda Bihari expressed satisfaction over the performance of the team.
