Hockey Gangpur thump Chhattisgarh

Bhubaneswar, May 21: Prakash Dhir struck four goals and Mandeep Kerketta, Sudeep Chirmako scored brilliant hat-tricks to help Hockey Gangpur pummel Chhattisgarh Hockey 18-1 in a match of the Vth  Hockey India Sub-Junior ( Division-A) Hockey Championship in New Delhi, Thursday.

Hockey Gangpur made a cracking start in this lop-sided match and Amandeep Lakra converted a penalty corner in the third minute to open the flood gate. This was followed by a beautiful field goal by Mandip Kerketta in the 19th minute, taking the lead to 2-0. Biraj Topno quickly struck two back-to-back field goals in the 22nd and 23rdminutes respectively to increase the lead to 4-0.

Sudeep Chirmako scored promptly four minutes later. Prakash Dhir surged ahead in full strength and struck twice in the 30th and 32nd minutes through penalty corner conversions. The team led 10-0 during the lemon break thanks to strikes by Mandeep (37th), Nahas Barwa (38th) and Prakash Dhir (39th).

After the change of ends, Gangpur maintained their scoring momentum and scored eight more goals to seal thumping victory. The remaining goals were scored by Sudeep (46th, 49th), Shakti Kujur (48th, 51st), Nahas Barwa (55th), Prakash(64th), Amandeep (68th) and Mandip (69th).

Chhattisgarh Hockey finally broke the shackles and scored a lone goal in the 43rd minute through Gurpeert Singh.
