Bhubaneswar, March 4: As per its resolution, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Tuesday published a list of 100 holding tax defaulters and displayed them at public places. The defaulters were warned of action if they did not pay their dues by March 31.

Municipal commissioner Krishan Kumar stated in February that certificate cases, under Public Recovery Act, would be registered against holding tax defaulters if they failed to deposit the amount by the end of the fiscal.

Hoardings enlisting 100 defaulters were put up at Jaydev Vihar, Satyanagar, Ashok Nagar and Rajmahal square here Tuesday. The list names house owner, the assessment year and the tax due. The list contains names of defaulters whose outstanding amount has exceeded Rs 1 lakh.

Despite repeated notices the defaulters failed to pay the taxes within the deadline. The civic authorities, consequently, have warned the defaulters of disciplinary action if they fail to pay taxes by March 31.

According to a BMC official, the civic body is mulling to release the second list of defaulters in a day or two. The amount, if collected, would be utilised for developmental activities.
