Holy City united against plastic menace

Puri: The plastic-free Odisha campaign launched by Orissa POST and Dharitri has received support from various social organisations, educational institutions, social activists, athletes, artistes and intellectuals.

Artistes and members of cultural organisations Abhinab Dramatic Club and Fate Fighters Club Friday extended their support for the campaign against plastic and polythene.

Among others, Samir Satpathy, Gyana Ranjan Mohanty, Santosh Mohanty, Pramod Patnaik, Jagan Pal, Niraj Mohanty, Siba Reddy, Rajkishore Das, Prakash Mohanty and Dibyaranjan Sethi participated in the plastic-free campaign at the premises of Srijagannath Ballav mutt here.

“We have planned to stage a few street plays and dramas in the Holy City to create awareness against the use of plastic,” said Abhinab Dramatic Club secretary Santosh Mohanty.

Similarly, the intellectuals and members of voluntary outfit Senior Citizens Corner welcomed the plastic-free Odisha campaign.

Social activists Baren Patnaik, Natbar Sahu, Sudhakar Mishra, Bijay Kumar Mahapatra, Gourahari Devgoswami, Mayadhar Patra, Bijay Senapati and Yugabrata Kar participated in the campaign.

“There were reports that claimed plastic and polythene can affect the fertility of soil. Hundreds of cattle are dying after swallowing polythene bags. We should boycott plastic for overall welfare of the society,” said educationist Sudhakar Mahapatra.

Social activist Yugabrata Kar put emphasis on proper awareness among the masses for a plastic-free society.
