New Delhi: Union home minister Rajnath Singh Friday reviewed developmental works going on in left wing extremism-affected districts of the state.
The state government has sought an additional Rs 142 crore to complete the Gurupriya Bridge in Malkangiri district during the next one year. Apart from this, the state government has sought inclusion of Angul, Boudh and Sonepur districts under Security-Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme.
“Union home minister Rajnath Singh and the Union home secretary had reviewed the developmental works and problems prevailing in Naxal-affected districts of Orissa. Issues related to Railways, posts, banking and construction of roads were discussed in the meeting,” said Orissa Chief Secretary, Aditya Prasad Padhi.
Padhi further added, “We demanded two central armed forces battalion to tackle the maiost menace that has spread over other districts. We have asked the centre to replace three districts under the security related expenditure (SRE) scheme with Angul, Boudh and Sonpur districts. We have also discussed about the Gurupriya bridge in Marlkangiri district. We have sought additional Rs142 crore from centre to complete the bridge. However, the state government has targeted to complete the bridge by September 2017.”
States participated in the meeting included Orissa, Chhatisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra. Also, officials of key central ministries such as Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate change, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Department of School Education & Literacy, Department of Financial Services, Department of Telecom, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Railway and Ministry of information and Broadcasting were present in the meeting.
The Union Home Minister is learnt to have discussed about the strategies to deal with left wing extremism in the country. Among other issues, development measures, construction of roads, installation of mobile towers, construction of Fortified Police Stations and other security related measures were discussed during the meeting.
