Cuttack: Following the death of a homoeopathic doctor due to alleged denial of prepaid auto-rickshaw service Tuesday night, railway superintendent of police Banabihari Sahu Wednesday directed the government railway police (GRP) to probe the incident.
Sahu asked the GRP authorities to submit the report within 24 hours.
Victim Madhusudan Ojha’s wife Rajashree, meanwhile, filed an FIR with the GRP police.
According to the complaint, Rajashree went to a prepaid auto-rickshaw counter to hire an auto in the late hours of Tuesday after Ojha, a homoeopathic doctor, complained of chest pain. However, Rajashree, who was in a hurry, had forgotten her wallet.
A constable posted at the prepaid counter asked Rajashree to deposit `65 before availing an auto to take Ojha to SCB Medical College and Hospital. Finding no other way, Rajashree urged the constable to send an auto for Ojha by mortgaging her ornaments. However, the constable ignored her plea.
The constable sent an auto for Ojha after Rajashree borrowed Rs 100 from a driver and deposited the amount at the counter. Ojha was rushed to SCBMCH in a critical condition. However, doctors declared him dead.
The Puja committee of Station Bazar also submitted a memorandum in this regard to the GRP.
