Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Cases of dreaded swine flu and the death of three patients in the state have triggered panic among the people as the experts here have started exploring alternative options for its cure.
The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) has recommended Arsenicum Album as one of the preventative drugs for swine flu. “The CCRH has approved Arsenicum as an effective vaccine for prevention of swine flu. If flu occurs in an area, the people should take the vaccine to remain unexposed to the virus,” said Surya Narayan Misro, homoeopath and the principal of Dr Abhin Chandra Homoeopathy College and Hospital here.
In order to stay protected from H1N1, health experts have suggested a number of preventative measures including hand wash, covering face, staying away from people having prolonged cold and fever.
The people opting for homoeopathic care can take Arsenicum Album and Influnungnum as antiviral drug. One preventive dose comprising four pills of size 30 can be consumed by adults and two pills by children daily, on empty stomach, for three days. The dose should be repeated after one month by following the same schedule in case of flu like conditions occurring in the area, according to Misro.
“Many people here like to adopt homoeopathy medication. We have prescribed and provided the medicine to people asking for it. We have enough stock of the Arsenicum and people can come here to avail this medicine. Although our state has not witnessing an endemic situation of the flu, prevention is better than treatment,” said Misro.
Public health director Kailash Das has suggested use of Oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or Zanamivir (Relenza) for treatment or prevention of infection with swine influenza viruses. “If one has respiratory distress, one should report to a nearby hospital. If a person becomes sick with swine flu, antiviral drugs can help and make the patient feel better,” said Das.
Currently, the country has been witnessing swine flu in epidemic shape with the death toll touching 965 mark. The situation has turned endemic in Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Telengana. In Orissa, the situation is mildly under control with three deaths and 12 diagnosed positive for flu.
