House allotment letters for slum residents

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) distributed provisional allotment letters to the beneficiaries of Naveen Nagar Basti in Satya Nagar of Ward No. 34 here in the city Saturday.
The people staying in the slum will be given houses at the Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) demonstration housing project in Gadakana. The new facility will be in ready-to move condition.
The evacuation of this untenable slum from its existing location in the lake zone area will help the Lake Neutral Project to gain momentum.
After the final list of eligible beneficiaries was prepared by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) issued provisional allotment letters. BDA helped the beneficiaries to get loans from banks.
The final allotment would be done through lottery once beneficiary contribution is realised, informed a BDA official.
The beneficiaries expressed their happiness after getting provisional allotment letters. “I am staying at Naveen Nagar Basti since 2008. I am happy that I am getting a permanent house with basic infrastructure,’’ said Alok Singh, 32, a driver.
“This will be a blessing for me and my family as we will have a permanent roof over our head and the kids would be happy to stay in a better neighborhood,’’ said Prabhakar Majhi, 48, another beneficiary, a skilled labourer with a son and daughter.
The BMTPC houses at Gadakana in G+3 buildings is the first demonstrative project in Bhubaneswar executed with pre-fabricated (pre-fab) technology. The new technology was adopted to demonstrate its viability. The event was attended by BDA and BMC officials.
The Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), established by the Union Ministry of Urban Development in July 1990, strives to promote proven technologies.
