Khaira: A gang of 14 armed miscreants barged into a house and performed a robbery after keeping the family members at gunpoint at Brahmachari village under Khaira police limits in Balasore district Sunday night.

The robbers looted gold and silver jewellery and cash worth lakhs of rupees, alleged Jadunath Behera, the house owner.

On receiving a report from the family Monday morning, a team from Khaira police station reached the house and carried out an investigation.

According to a source, the family members had their dinners Sunday night and went to sleep. At midnight, they woke up hearing some unusual sounds. Before they could figure out what they were, they were found surrounded by armed and masked miscreants. Brandishing a pistol at the family members, they tied the members with a rope. They took the keys of the almirah from Behera’s daughter-in-law and looted the ornaments and cash kept there and then decamped from the spot.

A manhunt has been launched for the dacoits, it was learnt.
