Bhubaneswar: The joint enforcement squad of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) demolished a residential house near IRC Square Wednesday in a bid to prevent waterlogging near Iskcon temple.
The person had encroached upon the sewerage line along National Highway 16. Sources claimed that he was the major encroacher who has made the sewerage system of Iskcon side dysfunctional, thereby making the sewage of Hotel Presidency and Iskcon getting discharged into the rainwater drain.
This sewage flowing towards Krishna Tower culvert was one of the major causes of the agony of Behera Sahi and Bhoi Sahi as it creates an unhygienic condition there especially during rain. The eviction started at 10.30 am in the presence of Nayapalli Police.
On the other hand, the family claimed that they have got a stay order from the court on the eviction and despite that the authorities demolished their house.
Notably, the BMC and BDA led an anti-encroachment drive in front of Iskcon Temple at Nayapalli here Saturday which turned violent as the followers of the sect clashed with police.
