Bhubaneswar, March 30: The body of a teenage girl was found hanging from the ceiling fan in a house in Nageshwar Tangi near Kalpana Square late Sunday evening.
The girl was working as a maid at the house from where her body was recovered, police said. While the deceased’s relatives said she was murdered, police refused to divulge more details and said they are awaiting the post-mortem report.
The body of Nilla Sethi (16), a native of Icchapur, was recovered from the house of Manorama Patnaik, an elderly woman who lives alone.
Sethi did Patnaik’s cooking, cleaning and other odd jobs, and also used to stay back at the latter’s place on a frequent basis whenever Patnaik wanted her to.
Patnaik’s sons and grandsons live in the US. Sethi’s home was a few hundred yards away from Patnaik’s, police added.
“At 5 pm Sunday, I got a call from Patnaik saying Nalli had committed suicide,” said Raghunath Sethi, the girl’s brother-in-law.
Sethi said he suspected it to be a case of murder as there were two men living downstairs. Both said they were not at home at the time of the incident.
“She must have been killed in some other room and hanged in order to make it look like a case of suicide,” Sethi said.
