Bhubaneswar: A high-level review meeting, focused on accelerating project implementation under the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) department and ensuring visible improvements in urban infrastructure ahead of the upcoming monsoon season, was held under the chairmanship of H&UD Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra at Kharavela Bhavan here Wednesday.
The meeting focused on ‘Gangua Nala Improvement Project’, a comprehensive improvement of Nicco Park and its surrounding areas, along with ways to strengthen storm water management and addressing the long-standing urban drainage concerns. Ekamra-Bhubaneswar MLA Babu Singh, H&UD Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana and other senior officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
Minister Mahapatra directed officials to adopt an integrated approach so that the revitalisation of Nicco Park precincts, the enhancement of public amenities, and the restoration of the Gangua Nala ecosystem progress simultaneously. Padhee emphasised coordinated inter-agency action for effective drainage solutions, while Rana briefed on the ongoing works, bottlenecks, and proposed timelines.
Meanwhile, Minister Mahapatra also visited Town Planning (TP) Schemes No. I, II and III at Bijapur, Paikarapur and Sahajpur, and inspected the site of the upcoming New City project. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to expanding TP Schemes in the peripheral areas of the Capital as part of its broader vision for developing Greater Bhubaneswar.
