Telkoi, May 4: CRPF jawans of 64 battalion Sunday seized huge cache of explosives and other incriminating materials from Kaliahata area under this block in Keonjhar district during a combing operation.
The seized materials included two tiffin-box bombs, five metres of wires, nine detonators, eight gelatin sticks, one kg of urea fertilizer, 250 gm of potash, salt, medicines, two packets of condoms, two Mao posters, several batteries and two packets of detergents.
In the wake of increased Maoist activities, the operation was launched Friday from Patakali village under Kaliahata outpost. The jawans spotted some people roaming around near Sankalei village of Padanga panchayat in suspicious condition. The combing party had gheraoed the area. However, the suspected Maoists managed to flee into the dense forest.
Later, the bomb disposal(BD) squad was pressed into service after a large bag was found near a water fall. The squad scanned the bag and recovered the explosives and other materials.
Twenty five jawans took part in the combing operation under the leadership of assistant commandant Ramesh Nayak of CRPF which continued till Sunday. The ‘Plus 2 guide’, a specially trained CRPF jawans, also participated in the operation.
A stretch starting from Gudinarada forest under Talapada panchayat of Harichandanpur block to Sankalei village under Padanga panchayat of Telkoi block via Nipinda village was covered under the operation after ultras tried to make the area a safe haven for them.
