Bhubaneswar: Institute of Social Development (ISD) along with students of Utkal University and Rama Devi University Monday organised an awareness campaign here on the occasion of Human Rights Day.
The UN theme for this year is “Making workplace safe for women”. ISD organised a signature campaign in front of Rama Devi University where as many as 300 students participated and expressed their support towards women empowerment. Later, a street play was staged on the same topic which aimed to encourage and empower women when it comes to office environment.
Human Rights Day is observed every year across the world December 10. It was in 1948 that the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) announced the day to be celebrated as Human Rights Day and honour the UNGA for declaring the human rights universally.
Subhashree Das, Director, ISD said, “What makes a city smart is not just infrastructure but the people. It’s high time we gave a clarion call for women safety and empowerment for a sustainable progressive society and make Bhubaneswar smart in true sense.”
200 join hands against gender-based violence
Bhubaneswar: Centre for Child and Women Development (CCWD), Bhubaneswar Young Urban Forum and ActionAid Monday formed a human chain at Lower PMG Square here to sensitise the people about gender-based violence and stop workplace harassment. More than 200 people including women rights activists and civil society organisations joined the programme. CCWD state convener Sadasiv Swain said the objective of the awareness drive is to sensitise the different stake holders to build a state free from child labour and violence.
