Malkangiri: In a startling disclosure, a Class VII Kanyashram girl, who was picked up by the Maoists but later managed to escape, uncovered the immoral practice by the senior cadres.
In horrifying accounts, Ratani (name changed) of Maribeda village of Andarapali panchayat Tuesday revealed that she along with several innocent girls of cut-off regions of Malkangiri were made to sleep with senior cadres at gun point.
She came to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) at Somnathpur here and expressed her desire to resume studies.
Ratani along with four other girls had escaped from the Maoist camp during the police encounter October 24 and somehow managed to contact their families. Later, they surrendered before the police as they were dubbed as Maoists even as they had nothing to do with the rebels, the girl said.
Narrating her ordeal, Ratani said the guerrillas forcibly picked her up from home and made her a member of their organisation when she came to the village during Puja vacation. They promised her parents to leave her after six months but that didn’t happen.
“Initially I was engaged in sundry jobs like cleaning guns and cooking. Later, I was sent to render my service to Maoist leaders. Often I had to sleep with them at gun point,” Ratani revealed with tears rolling down on her cheeks.
There were other girls from her village also and they all had to walk for miles every day with Maoists, she added. “All of us were made to ‘serve’ the leaders,” she further said.
Meanwhile, the ultras got dispersed during a combing operation October 24 night and taking advantage of this Ratani along with four others managed to escape. They reached Amulibeda after crossing Chitrakonda reservoir using a country boat and subsequently met their family members who had earlier fled the village and took shelter at Kudumulugumma. The girls later surrendered before Malkangiri police.
It may be noted that more than 100 families of 10 villages of Andarapalli panchayat have already fled the village fearing the ultras. The rebels breath down on the necks of people who are reluctant to leave their ancestral land, a report said.
Meanwhile, Ratani submitted an application to KGBV headmistress Tukurami Zordar for enrollment in the school.
When contacted, the headmistress said there are no vacant seats in the school at present. She would apprise the seniors and follow their instructions, Zordar said.
