Bhubaneswar, Dec 3: As part of the state government’s plan to create a land bank for facilitating growth of industry, Orissa Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO)- the state agency responsible for acquisition of land- has acquired 1,979.862 acres of land till date.
This was informed by the state Industry minister Thursday in a reply to a question in the assembly on the status of the proposed land bank.
As per the reply, IDCO has sent proposals to various block and district level functionaries for acquiring land of around 78,677 acres for the proposed land bank.
In the wake up opposition by local people to land acquisition process for setting up industrial units, the state government had earlier this year decided to create a land bank for the industry.
The step would help in keeping the land ready for setting up industries without facing protest from local people.
As per the decision, districts like Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak , Cuttack, Khurda, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Jajpur, Balasore, Ganjam, Keonjhar, and Puri will have land bank created for the industry.
The state government has also identified land to be acquired in various industrial clusters.
Giving statistics of the land acquired or to be acquired, the reply showed that a total of 9,996 acre of land has been proposed to be acquired in Dhamara region in Bhadrak and Balasore districts.
Similarly, Paradeep region will have a land bank of around 5,823.5 acre under this plan. In Bhubaneswar region which includes districts like Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh and Cuttack will have a land bank of 19,874.9 acre.
In Gopalpur region of Ganjam district, 1,090 acre of land will be acquired for setting up various industrial units.
Giving an account of land bank to be created in Sambalpur-Jharsuguda region, the document showed that around 21,102 acre of land will be acquired in this zone.
Similarly, in Sundergarh-Rourkela region, 1,295 acre of land will come under the land bank plan. Meanwhile, Dhenkanal-Angul region will see a land bank of 4,482.9 acre.
