Bhubaneswar, June 11: As many as 110 paintings made by children of the city were displayed at a painting exhibition being organised by Itikili Mitikili at Soochana Bhawan, Saturday. The paintings were made on the theme of Smart city.
Secretary of the non-profit Sarat Kumar Nayak told Orissa POST: “We had organised a painting competition May 1 on a theme Smart City at Pathani Samanta Planetarium and students presented their ideas on making Bhubaneswar a smart city there. More than 150 students from different schools of the state participated in the competition but we selected 110 of them.”
Paintings were specifically made on the themes ‘Light Post in Smart City’, ‘Smart Schools’ and ‘Smart Railway Station’. Besides, many random paintings on smart city were also showcased at the exhibition.
A Class- III student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, No-3, Sarmistha Das had conveyed message to use solar energy to prevent water scarcity in state. “We can bring electricity to homes and streets through solar energy that we can conserve water for our future,” Sharmistha said.
Another painting by Payel Patnaik gave the message of saving trees. She said people should plant trees in city to prevent global warming and to keep Bhubaneswar cool.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayor Anant Narayan Jena visited at the venue and admired students for their unique ideas and thoughts for smart city.
“After viewing the paintings, the mayor assured children that these ideas will be passed on to the Smart City Management Committee for their consideration,” Sarat said.
According to the secretary, the painters will be felicitated at a special programme June 26 at Soochana Bhawan. The exhibition will be open till Sunday from 10 am to 9 pm.
