IG Park gets children’s play rides

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has added play rides for kids at the Indira Gandhi Park near PMG Square here.

Recently, the park was in limelight for being selected as one of the major venues for the Bhubaneswar International Storytelling Festival, commonly known as BhuFeSto. The event attracted huge footfall of students from various schools across the city to listen to their favourite storytellers.

Jasaswini Mohapatra, Principal, Maria Montessori School of Little Angels at Ganganagar, said, “The park was a nice venue during our college days, but when we planned to take our students there, we had to change our plan as there were no rides for kids. Now we can take our students to IG Park as the rides are installed.”

BDA chief horticulturist Ashokananda Dhar said, “The children’s rides like merry-go-round, see-saw with four seats, four seated arch, multi-play station and others cost around Rs 16.5 lakh and we are now happy that parents, while spending their time inside the park would give their little ones a chance to enjoy.”

Under the Light Sculpture Project of BDA to make public spaces beautiful with LED lighting arrangements, IG Park too has been decked up with lights.

Though the park was inaugurated October 31, 1988, it was not having any children’s rides until now. Strategically placed, the park spread across 10.6 acres area was earlier used as a ground for rallies and dharnas and later developed as one of the most sought-after parks in the city.
