Phulbani: Police Tuesday unearthed an illegal firearm manufacturing unit during a raid at Kailambha Patamaha village under Phiringia police limits in Kandhamal district.
Police arrested a youth involved in the manufacturing of guns and seized four country guns, 113pc bullets, gun powder and explosives used to make guns from the factory. He was identified as Jakia Kanhar.
A case was registered and further investigation was on, Phiringia IIC Dhiren Kumar Behera said.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team was formed to keep an eye on the whereabouts of Kanhar. Accordingly, a raid was conducted and the seizure was made, IIC Behera added. The guns were mostly used for poaching wild animals in the areas.
Kanhar had managed to make a market for himself by selling the guns for premium rates at local markets. PNN
