Phulnakhara: Police here Saturday seized four trucks and two earth-movers from Srikorua sand mine on Kathajodi river embankment under Sadar police limits on charges of quarrying sand illegally. However, the vehicle drivers fled the scene. Sources in the police said the truck owners have been fined Rs 22 lakh for lifting sand illegally from the particular sand mine. Acting on a tip-off about illegal sand mining in the area, a team of Sadar police raided the spot and seized the vehicles. It is worth mentioning here that the locals of the area have been complaining of illegal sand mining from the river embankment. The locals had also reported the matter to the Sadar tehsildar.
