Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Andaman Sea Saturday evening and intensify into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal by September 21, the Bhubaneswar Regional Centre of IMD said Saturday.
It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal September 22 before reaching the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal near the south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts by the morning of September 23, the Regional Meteorological Centre said.
Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at a few places across Odisha during the next 24 hours.
The IMD has issued an orange warning for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph at one or two places in Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.
A yellow warning has been issued for Baleswar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapad, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Dhenkanal, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada, where thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places.
Squally weather, with winds reaching 45-55 kmph and gusting to 65 kmph, is likely along and off the Odisha coast till September 22, with sea conditions expected to remain rough to very rough.
Fishermen have been advised to return to the coast by the evening of September 22.
