Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of Indian Meteorological Centre (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Odisha Monday.
According to the bulletin released by the centre, a cyclonic circulation formed over north-west Bay of Bengal near West Bengal and neighbourhood will take form of a low pressure in the next 24 hours, triggering heavy rainfall.
Under its influence, there would be heavy rainfall in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jharsuguda, Cuttack, Sambalpur, Sundargarh and Puri with isolated extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places in these districts.
This apart, since there is a strong monsoon current in Odisha, heavy rainfall would continue in Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts, Met sources said.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea for the next 48 hours till August 7 as the surface wind speed will be 35-45 kmph with gusting to 55 kmph along and off the Odisha coast. The fishermen, who have gone for deep sea fishing, have been advised to return to the coast by 9 am Monday.
Acting on the IMD forecast, the office of the Special Relief Commissioner has asked the collectors of the aforesaid districts to remain alert to meet any eventuality.
