IMD issues heavy rain and thunderstorm warning for several districts

Bhubaneswar: With the formation of a third low pressure over the North Bay of Bengal, the India Metrological Department (IMD) Thursday issued a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorm warning for several districts of the state valid till 8:30am of August 21.

In its afternoon bulletin, the centre said: Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over the districts of Odisha.

IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings to several districts till 8:30am of August 21. People in these districts have been advised to stay indoors and take shelter in buildings during lightning as a precautionary measure.

Orange warning (be prepared):

Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, and Angul.

The IMD also issued an alert for the above district on water logging in low lying areas which may cause minor damages to kutcha houses and kutcha road.

Yellow warning (be updated): 

Heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapara and Boudh.

Meanwhile, the highest maximum temperature of 35 degree Celsius was recorded at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district of Odisha.
