IMD predicts heatwave conditions in Odisha

Bhubaneswar: The IMD regional office of Bhubaneswar has predicted heatwave conditions in most places of Odisha from April 15 onwards.

Manorama Mohanty of the Bhubaneswar Weather office said heat wave conditions are likely to prevail for several districts in Odisha from April 15 to April 17.

She said Saturday the highest day temperature of 39.5 degrees Celsius was recorded in Parlakhemundi in south Odisha followed by 39 degrees Celsius in Baripada while in major parts of Odisha, the mercury hovered above 37 degrees Celsius.

The lowest minimum temperature of 16.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Angul in the plains of Odisha.

Mohanty said there will be a gradual rise of day temperature during the next 24 hours and a further rise of temperature by 6 to 8 degrees Celsius in many parts of Odisha during the subsequent four to five days. The day temperature, she said may rise to 41 to 43 degrees Celsius.

MeT sources said very Light to Light Rainfall has occurred at one or two places over the districts of Boudh, Rayagada, and Keonjhar of Interior Odisha while dry weather prevailed over the rest districts of Odisha.

It further said light to moderate rain/thundershowers are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and issued yellow warnings.
