Rayagada: The indefinite strike by a group of employees and local people at the Indian Metal and Ferro Alloys’ (IMFA) Therubali plant Thursday entered its second day.
The production at the plant has been affected as the agitators locked the main gate and prevented the staff to enter the factory.
Though IMFA officials gave a clarification for the delay in meeting the demands of workers Wednesday, the agitators were unwilling to relent.
Rayagada Sub Collector Prabir Kumar Nayak has assured the strikers to meet the plant authorities to sort out the issue. He is expected to convene a tripartite meeting between the district administration, plant officials and workers soon after holding talks with IMFA officials Thursday.
After a month’s lull, tension again erupted at the plant Wednesday after a group of workers locked its main gate and started an indefinite strike seeking fulfillment of their demands, including education, land issues, drinking water facility, peripheral area development of the plant, rest room for women workers, fixation of minimum wage, EPF, gratuity, bonus, etc.
The protesters claimed that despite an assurance from the IMFA authorities May 11 to look into their demands, no action has been taken so far.
