Korei: An impostor doctor in Barti area near Korei in Jajpur district was arrested Tuesday for allegedly demanding a ransom of Rs 5lakh from a woman and threatening to make her obscene photos and videos viral on the social media platforms.
The accused has been identified as Kabir Naik (30), son of Paria Naik of Khajuriapada village near Baideswar of Cuttack district. Jajpur Road SDPO Kedarnath Sahu narrated the details of the incident at a press conference Tuesday evening.
Kabir came in contact with the victim through a wrong call a few months ago. Later he lured her into a relationship by introducing himself as a doctor.
He identified himself as Dr Sudarshan Panda, a senior officer in the health department, and promised her he would appoint her as an Anganwadi supervisor.
He got close to the victim and managed to get her obscene photographs. Then, he used these photographs to blackmail her and demanded a ransom of Rs 5lakh. Police arrested him over a complaint by the victim, according to SDPO Kedarnath Sahu and Korei police IIC Chinmayee Sahu.
However, when he started blackmailing her and demanded money, the woman lodged a complaint with Korei Police a few days ago.
The accused was charged under Sections 417,419,420,506, 34 of IPC and 66 (C), 66 (D), 66 (E) of IT Act and forwarded to the court after his arrest Tuesday night and later remanded to judicial custody.
