In this temple, childless couple steal wooden doll ‘Lokada’ to bear baby

Uttarakhand: From childhood we are taught that stealing is sin. But there is a temple in India where there is a tradition of theft because it is believed that stealing fulfills wishes.

It is only one of its kind Indian temple. It is known as Chudamani Devi located in Chudiala village of Roorkee in Uttarakhand. The temple give its devotees all the privilege to steal, in fact people from faraway places visit this shrine to complete the religious ritual.

Locals believe, the temple has a blessing of Goddess Sati, as her bridal ‘chuda’ had fallen here; hence Chudamani Temple. Devotees, who wish for a child, pay obeisance at this temple and steal a wooden doll (Lokada) kept in the feet of Chudamani Devi; once they do it they are soon blessed with a healthy baby.

Since then, there is practice of such a theft in this temple.
