Indradhanu market sealed for 24 hours as people flout COVID-19 norms

Bhubaneswar: Indhradhanu Market, popularly known as the ID Market in Nayapalli area was sealed Friday for 24 hours. It incidentally is one of the busiest markets in the state capital. The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials along with Commissionerate Police personnel sealed the market after finding gross violations of COVID-19 guidelines.

According to a source, a squad comprising BMC officials and police personnel Friday morning conducted a raid at the ID Market.

They found people as well as shopkeepers paying scant regard for the COVID-19 protocols like wearing of masks and maintaining social distancing.

Subsequently, the BMC sealed the market for 24 hours. It means that the market will again reopen Monday as Saturday and Sunday, there will be weekend shutdown enforced across Odisha.

The officials expressed displeasure over people not following the COVID-19 norms even when the capital city is witnessing a spike in daily cases for the last couple of days.

Khurda district Friday reported 1,408 positive cases, taking the caseload to 70,403. The numbers of patients who have recovered and who are undergoing treatment are 59,018 and 11,017 respectively.

Notably, the BMC and Commissionerate Police had sealed Market Building at Unit 2 in the city Wednesday for the same reasons.
