Bhubaneswar, March 30: Talks with industry bodies and entrepreneurs have got an overwhelming response with many expressing keenness to invest in Orissa.
The state received investment queries from Rolls Royce, Lockheed Martin, Bharat Forge, Chivaro Technologies, Samtel and Ashok Leyland, during the interaction between a delegation of the state government and representatives of industry bodies and entrepreneurs at the national defence expo in Goa, Defexpo India 2016.
The delegation, which was led by state industries secretary Sanjeev Chopra, had visited the expo that was held from March 28 to March 31, according to a release from the department.
Bharat Forge CMD Baba Kalyani and Lockheed Martin CEO Phil Shaw are likely to visit Orissa soon to carry the discussion forward.
The development comes in the wake of the state government resolution to convert Orissa into a ‘manufacturing hub of the east’.
In a presentation made at the expo March 29, Chopra highlighted issues related to the Industrial Policy Resolution 2015, the Special Economic Zone Policy 2015 and the industrial infrastructure, which according to him lead to a conducive environment for investment in the state. The policy on setting up industrial parks in the private sector was also detailed.
Earlier in the day, the delegation participated in the India-UK round table organised by CII and the Association of Defence Industries of UK. The range of investment opportunities in Orissa were highlighted in both the events. In the meeting it was also mentioned that the state has 17 per cent share of live investments in the country according to the recent report published by Assocham.
The expo was organised by the Defence Exhibition Organisation, a part of the Union ministry of defence. At the inaugural session, Union defence minister Manohar Parrikar unveiled the defence procurement policy (DPP) of 2016.
