Bhubaneswar: Commodore Rituraj Sahu took over as the commanding officer of the Indian Navy’s premier Sailors’ Training Establishment, INS Chilka, as well as the Naval officer-in-charge (Odisha) from Commodore Manish Misra, VSM at an impressive Ceremonial Parade Monday.
The officials of INS Chilka gave Commodore Misra a warm send-off on completion of his three-year tenure. In turn, Commodore Misra expressed his gratitude to all shipmates for their support and dedicated efforts, an official said.
Commodore Sahu, who hails from Chatrapur in Ganjam district, is a Navigation and Direction specialist and was commissioned in the Indian Navy July 1, 1990. Sahu is a graduate from the prestigious National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla. He has undergone staff course at the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and the Higher Command Course with M.Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies at the College of Air Warfare, Secunderabad. He recently underwent the Overseas NDC Course at National Defence College (NDC), Dhaka, Bangladesh and was conferred Masters in Strategic & Development Studies (MSDS) from Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dhaka December 21 last year.
In his 29 years of service, Sahu held several offshore and staff assignments. He has commanded IN Ships Cuddalore, Karwar and the stealth frigate, INS Tarkash and was also the executive officer of the aircraft carrier INS Viraat. He has served in the Directorates of Staff Requirements and Aircraft Carrier Projects at Integrated Headquarters, Ministry of Defence, Navy at New Delhi. He was part of a team that successfully undertook the Delivery Acceptance Trials of INS Vikramaditya in Russia in 2013. Besides, Sahu has also served as the Naval Assistant to the Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, FOC-in-C (South) and FOC-in-C (West).
