Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: Orissa Biennale, an international festival observed to celebrate the rich art and cultural heritage of the globe, is slated to commence in October.
Organised by city-based cultural organisation Mudra Foundation, the fest is likely to witness a conglomeration of international artists on the premises of the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), where a battery of cultural programmes have been planned.
This year the theme for the event is ‘Mélange’ and the organisers have decided to hold the programmes with global participants from October 26 to November 1. Orissa-Biennale-2015 will be spearheaded by celebrated Japanese Odissi and contemporary dancer Masako Ono(see pic).
Acclaimed artists from around the globe in the fields of performing arts, design, visual arts, crafts, arts, music, film and photography are expected to participate in this year’s Biennale in collaboration with artists from Orissa.
“The aim of this project is not only to develop the production of art but also to instill a deeper sense of inter-culturality and to understand the importance of cultural communication to break down international barriers. The workshops at the Biennale will act as a bridge across cultures and promote cultural diversity through innovation, creativity and expression”, says Masako.
Japanese Butoh dancer Natsu Nakajima, interdisciplinary artist Raphael Perret from Switzerland and photographer Takayasu Hattori are some amongst the noted 55 globally acclaimed artistes who would be a part of Orissa Biennale 2015 and conduct workshops to aid the development of culture and art among artists and art lovers in Orissa.
Started as a pilot project in Bhubaneswar, the year 2013 saw over 45 artistes from across Japan and Europe come together and showcase unique performing arts.
