Int’l radio fair begins Feb 12

Bhubaneswar:International radio broadcasters Voice of America, China Radio International, NHK World Radio Japan and Bangladesh Vetaar are participating in the fourth edition of Outreach International Radio fair to be held at Bhanja Kala Mandap here from February 12. The event was announced Thursday. City-based organization Outreach is organising the event to mark World Radio Day (February 13).

Radio listeners and stations from different parts of the world are joining the event. Working radio jockeys, broadcasters and technicians from different stations of India are reaching Bhubaneswar to celebrate the occasion. About 200 artistes from different states will also perform music and dance. At the two-day event, old and new radio sets, stamp collection based on radio, and transmission and studio equipment will be on display.

Besides a stall offering radio repair services and those selling
new and handmade radios will form sidelights of the event. Visitors will also get to attend seminars on radio-related themes. Competitions such as radio jockeying, radio announcements and drama will be held at schools and colleges to encourage youngsters to choose radio as their career. According to Pati, the event will also form the venue for an awards function. The Outreach National Radio Awards for Excellence in Broadcasting are to be given away to broadcaster Kamal Sharma (‘Lifetime Achievement Award’); RJ Devangana from Jaipur (‘Popular Radio Presenter of the Year’); Suresh Agarwal from Kalahandi (‘Radio Listener of the Year’); SOA FM (‘Community Radio Station of the Year’) and Amateur Radio Convention and Conference Samiti of West Bengal (‘Best Use of Radio in Public Service’)
