IPL betting: 9 held in Ganjam, Bargarh

Bargarh/Berhampur: Police have busted IPL betting rackets in Ganjam and Bargarh districts and arrested nine persons, said sources. Bargarh SP Parmar Smit Parshottamdas told a presser Monday that Vicky Mittal, Prakash Agrawal, Arjun Senapati, Bimalkant Nag and Dilip Dash have been arrested for running the racket at an under construction house during the IPL 2022 match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Police recovered Rs 6.14 lakh in cash, one LED TV, mobile phones and cards from their possession.

Similarly, four persons have been arrested in Ganjam district for allegedly taking bets for the IPL final between RR and Gujarat Titans. Acting on a tip-off, police raided premises of a temple in Aska Sunday and caught the suspects who were collecting money from the public.

Six others managed to flee, an officer said. They were operating the racket through an online website and placed bets for customers through mobile phones, Aska police station inspector Prasant Sahoo said. Six mobile phones and Rs 7.6 lakh in cash were seized from their possession, Sahoo said.
