Bhubaneswar: The state government Wednesday decided to set up two inter-state bus terminals (ISBTs) here and in Cuttack.
The twin decisions were taken at two separate meetings here and in Cuttack.
While the bus stand at Baramunda here would be developed as a modern ISBT, a new terminal would be set up at Gopalpur, on the outskirts of Cuttack city.
Chairing the meeting here, Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi said the Barmunda bus stand will be renovated at a cost of `180 crore in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The work is slated to begin by the end of June and will be completed within 15 months, he added.
A land near Khandagiri here has been demarcated which is to be used as a temporary bus stop till the Baramunda bus stand is renovated, Padhi said.
The state government will bear 40 per cent of the cost while another 40 per cent would be provided through a loan from the Odisha Urban Infrastructure Development Fund (OUIDF). The remaining 20 per cent of the amount would be provided from the City Infra Development Fund (CIDF), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) vice chairman Krishan Kumar said.
In the meeting at Cuttack by Commerce and Transport Minister Nrusingha Charan Sahoo, the decision to set up an ISBT at Gopalpur was taken. Briefing the media, the Minister said, “For the proposed project, the government will acquire 40 acres of land.” Stating that the estimated cost of the proposed project is `500 crore, he said the project would facilitate daily movement of about 1,000 buses.
