Bhubaneswar, May 7: Industry body, Utkal Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UCCI) has urged the state government to issue green cards to exporters’ with sound track record for speedy passage of consignments.

This demand has come in the backdrop of complaints received by the association from exporters regarding undue delay of export consignments in check gates by officials.

“Govt of Orissa Export Policy, 2014 provides for exporter green card which will be issued to the exporters of the state having good track records for early passage of export consignment at check gates,” UCCI said in a letter to MSME department recently.

According to the policy, 100 per cent export-oriented units (EoU)s, Export House, Star Export House, Trading House, Star Trading House are eligible for such green card.

However, the association noted that not a single green card has been issued to any export house till date in the last one and half years.

“Almost all the export members have been complaining that their trucks are unnecessarily detained by the check gates authorities under one or other pretext causing lot of hardship and sometimes loss to these exporters as they miss the shipping date due to the delay in check gates,” the letter said adding that maximum hardship is faced by seafood exporters who are dealing with perishable goods.

Under these circumstances, the association said the state government should expedite the process of issuing green cards to export houses in order to reduce the turnaround time.

“This card will help exports from our state which is very important as they earn foreign exchange for our state and the country,” the letter said.
