Joda: Sleuths of the Income Tax department conducted searches in the offices of Indra Patnaik mines at Mahaparbat and DR Patnaik mine at Joda for the second day Saturday.
Sources said the officials checked documents of the mines. They also examined documents at the office of Maa Kuanri Transport, which has been transporting mineral from Indrani Patnaik mine. Searches which were suspected to be in connection with tax evasion, were also carried out in a house of an official working in Indrani Patnaik mine Saturday.
An MLA has business connection with Indrani Patnaik. The MB Shah Commission and the SC-empowered CEC had visited the mines of Indrani Patnaik during the probe of the multi-crore mining scam.
DR Patnaik, the husband of Indrani Patnaik, has mines in Joda mining circle. Large-scale irregularities had been alleged in the DR Patnaik mines.
